Oh dear, more confusion

Remember last week the Herald reporting on Sir Peter Blake's expedition (10/2/01) trying to give the impression that Antarctic ice was scarce due to global warming? Never mind the little bits around the edges where his boat was. Is serious on-land ice melting and running into the sea?
Not what was reported 26 Feb on National Radio. The report said tourists can't now get into Scott Base because a Ministry of Tourism official has to accompany any party, and they don't have the man-power. Consequently the tourist operators want their donation-to-Tourism Board money back, because they can't get these guys to come out. And the report went on to say that because they have to park the ships too far away, on account of the ice having been INCREASING for the last couple of years, it is more dangerous for these inexperienced tourists to cross the expanding terrain.

Marlborough drought

They asked NIWA and the Metservice when the Marlborough drought would abate and they shrugged their shoulders. Not at all during March, it was reported on TV three nights ago. Then last night they changed their minds. Rain was coming, TV3's Augy announced very excitedly. The Marlborough Express ran it today as a headline, according to editor Brendon Burns when I spoke on the phone to him in Blenheim. Mayor Gerald Hope was kind enough to hear my ideas, as I thought that this current sprinkle will do nothing for the district. Blenheim farmers will get a passing shower on 13th, heavier falls on 20th and 26th of this month; another sprinkle on April 2nd, 4th and 16th, but will have to wait for April 24th, the April new Moon, for a really good dunking.

Nelson conditions

Gaylenne Pound of Fresh FM Radio in Nelson confirms that the slight rain predicted for that district on Feb 1st for today indeed occurred. From 6th-8th they will see a few more light showers, more drizzle by 11th, and about as much on 16th/17th as right now. Then..da da..the 26th of March will see the end of this drought for Nelson. Another drenching for Nelson too will come on April 24th.

Droughts to come?

There'll be another drought next year in Marlborough around this time but that's it, the end of the run for a while.

Accuracy now better

I have now acquired nearly all of NZ's recorded weather data from NIWA, where it went to when the metservice became privatized. Althouigh I still don't claim 100%, future accuracy on my part will be now enhanced. Whereas before I was relying on newspaper forecasts, I now have actual figures to work with. Using this lunar longrange forecasting method it is possible to confidently predict droughts and floods FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS FOR ANY DISTRICT IN NZ. Facing Christchurch meteorologist Tony Trewinnard (of Blue Skies) this afternoon on Canterbury-On-Air Radio I made this claim and it flabbergasted him. He said that if I said that outside of the studio it would be a first in the world. He's right, and I HAVE been trying to say it can be done but there's not many who'll listen. Meteorologists mostly just don't want to know and prefer to rubbish the theory without even bothering to examine it.

Fishing news

Best fishing in March according to the moon will be 9th - 11th and 24th-26th. Good will be 3rd and 17th. A complete and utter waste of time will be 6th/7th, 13th/14th, 20th/21st, and 28th/29th.

Weekend weather

We said Auckland this week will be dry, with some drizzle Friday(today) and Saturday. Looks like the potential is indeed there. Titirangi got black clouds and a few drops earlier this evening.
Next week? Looks like being completely dry all week with further drizzle next Saturday in Auckland and Christchurch, and dry and sunny in Wellington with gray skies next Saturday.

Ski report

Light falls possible around the middle and definitely at the end of May, the end of the first week in June and end of June;Ý pretty good around mid July; at the end of August; and really good in September with the good falls ending around mid October. I'd say book early - it's much cheaper at the moment.Ý No, they're not paying me to say that. I wish!

Travelers to Australia

Following a request to do so I have put all weather for Oz major cities up on my website for the whole of March. Hopefully this will be of help to the many travelers who now go over.

Global warming website

Many are unaware of the number of reputable scientists who are dead against all the GW hype. These say the Arctic is still warming slightly from the small increase in global temps that occurred pre1940. That's how long it takes for warming or cooling to click in. But 1940-80 the trend reversed and we had global cooling. To find out more, and the REAL facts from a scientific point of view, check out www.globalwarming.org
