Greetings

Hi if you have just joined this newsletter, which looks behind the weather and way ahead and at the way the MOON creates our climate. These notes will be produced around significant weather events.

Massive earthquake arrives on time

Last week you read it here first!.." From Thursday till next Tuesday there is potential for an earthquake at least equal to the devastating one in Peru. Stay tuned to the news forecasts over the next week" Well, Tuesday, today, it happened.. A 7.4mag shake NE of Gisborne, and felt over the whole country. Not only did it happen on time, but it occurred within the hour of MOONSET. That is so typical of earthquakes. The Peruvian one occurred at the exact time of MOONRISE. Can there be any doubt that the moon is responsible?
This perigee has brought a few, actually. Three came to Japan - on 14th measured mag 6.4, second one on 18th and a third on 20th. A small one hit Auckland Island two days ago measuring 5+. A 5 day flood has already killed 158 in Thailand, a supertyphoon hit the Phillipines, thunderstorms occurred from England to NZ and a mighty storm is right now heading for the Caribbean.

Tekapo update

I asked my mate Andrew for some clarification on his claim that Meridian or whoever spilled water deliberately out of the hydrolakes. He writes "they spilled water down the old Tekapo Riverbead, bypassing 4 powerstations but generating power through Benmore + Avimore. The powerstations they bypassed were Tekapo A, Tekapo B, Ohau A, Ohau B . The essential "stuffup" was that they estimated that the water they spilled would be replaced during the Autumn Rains, the rest we know is history!!!
The timing was Feb as I recall.
regards Andrew"
I have forwarded this information to TV3, and they seemed very keen to follow up on it. If it proves true then it shows that low levels could be as a result of a deliberate policy initiative. If so, it's not hard to work out why.

Coming up what's coming down

Fairly dry week, a bit of rain at night around Thursday when the moon crosses the equator but no massive storm systems until the end of August, the 29th/30th, which will be the southern declination.

Steve Faucette

You know, the guy in the balloon. He was forced down by thunderstorms over Chile. Nothing was more certain. Fancy wasting $2.2 million dollars and then thinking you can sail a fragile ultra-thin membrane through the middle of a howling perigee. That's what happens when you listen to the advice of 'experts', and he had a whole team of them.

Fishing prospects

It's been great fishing over the last few days, which you always get just following the New moon. On the CNN news we got pics of extra numbers of sharks at Daytona Beach schooling and feeding in the breakers. I couldn't help but think, aha, that's the New Moon bringing them in, because they'd be chasing the smaller fish which always linger around the shoreline around new moon time. Fishing won't be any good this week but improves by Sunday.

Weather Almanac 2002

Next year's Almanac is now completed and an early print run has been ordered from my printer so I can fulfill early orders before Hazard Press print their large runs ready for stocking shops pre-Xmas. I'll have them by next week. This time I have acceded to farmers' requests to project 5 years ahead and have put monthly rainfall projections for all districts up to 2006 listed at the back of the book. This time also I have gone for two days per page, and a much clearer way of seeing weather at a glance ~ big lines across the NZ map showing where the rain starts and stops.
Price: $27 +$2 postage.
Drop me a cheque if you want one and I'll post it out.
