Greetings

Hi if you have just joined this newsletter, which looks behind the weather and way ahead and at the way the MOON creates our climate. These notes will be produced around significant weather events.

Sorry for the lateness of this - I've been away all week.

95bFM report

This is what I told the radio host last Tuesday..

"I've got dry weather for the next couple of days, but some rain coming round about Thursday and lasting right through the weekend till next Monday. We've got a Full Moon on Sunday, so the rain will be in the daytime and the moon should clear the sky at night . That fact alone proves the moon controls the weather. It's also the apogee on Saturday which means lighter winds because the moon's furthest from the earth for the month of August on that day. Anybody having a wedding on Saturday, in Auckland I'd say the rain will probably hold off, and we'll mainly just get overcast skies.

And then we're into September. I've got more than average rain in September around the Auckland region, milder temperatures, actually cloudy and wet over much of the country except in the east. I think about half the Auckland days in September will be wet ones, only about 8 or 9 will be blue sky days, and the rest will be cloudy. The big dump will be around the 19th.

Tekapo update

If you remember all the regular metservices said there'd be no rain until next year, if ever, down there. Well, they had a fair bit over August. the lakes ARE filling. On Holmes program last Friday, Vicki Wilkinson-Baker went down there. It looks like the people of Tekapo are being held to ransom, because the reporter found no one wanted to talk about mismanagement by the power companies as being the real reason the lakes are low.. Meridian let a whole lot of water go in February to aid the kayakers, help the Black stilt and avert what they thought would be winter flooding from autumn rains, which then never came. They have told the townsfolk that they could let more go if they wanted to, and create a dust problem for the town. VickiWilkinson Baker actually said that. No one is brave enough to stand up to them and investigate the matter. It's the government, after all..but meanwhile we're being blamed for using too much power. Doesn't seem right.

Weather Almanac 2002

Next year's Almanac is now completed and an early print run has been ordered from my printer so I can fulfill early orders before Hazard Press print their large runs ready for stocking shops pre-Xmas. I'll have them by next week. This time I have acceded to farmers' requests to project 5 years ahead and have put monthly rainfall projections for all districts up to 2006 listed at the back of the book. This time also I have gone for two days per page, and a much clearer way of seeing weather at a glance ~ big lines across the NZ map showing where the rain starts and stops. Price: $27 +$2 postage. Drop me a cheque if you want one and I'll post it out. (P.O.Box 60197 Titirangi, Auckland) Sorry, no credit cards.

Thanks to all those who have bought early copies. Good luck with the forward planning
