Graves Committee
.
Duncan
recorded several graves at Redcap (Chillagoe) and gave the details to a local
mining company to collaborate on preservation.
Blue has completed the monument
at the Watsonville Cemetery and Dan is researching the early papers re the Montalbion
burials and at present has found 63 names.
Duncan and Dan relocated the
Tumoulin Cemetary and a project to document and restore this site is proposed.

Plaques

The
Eacham Historical Society is leaving footprints across North Queensland.
The
Society unveiled
a plaque in July 2006 to honour Aleksandr Prokhorov at Butchers Creek.
Aleksandr
Prokhorov, outstanding Russian scientist and Nobel Laureate in physics was born
at Butchers Creek on 11th. July 1916.
Aleksandr attended Butchers Creek State
School from 1922 - 1923. The Prohorov family returned to Russia in 1923 where
Aleksandr continued his studies graduating with distinction from Leningrad University
in 1939. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in 1964 thus being the first
Queensland born scientist to be so honoured.
The AM Prokhorov General Physics
Institute in Moscow was named in his honour.

Cemetery, to honour the pioneers - Kennedy Expedition at Emu Creek, near Petford
- Stannary Hills Cemetery- the site of the Top Gate, the Gillies Highway -
Wyoming Station to mark Leichhardt's Tree. - Butchers Creek to mark the site
of the Davidson family cemetery. - Millaa Millaa Falls for explorer Christie
Palmerston. - Rutland Downs Station to mark the grave of John Gilbert.
- Lamins Hill for trail blazer George Clarke. - Millaa Millaa Lions Park for
explorers Christie Palmerston and Pompo.

Projects
EPA CULTURAL SURVEY
The EPA is currently doing a cultural survey of the Tablelands
Shires,as part of of a state wide survey to identify places of state
significence.
The Eacham Historical Society has been assisting the Environmental
Protection Agency in identifying places of cultural significence on
the Tablelands for inclusion.
In the latest EPA newsletter members of the EHS have been thanked for
their help.

It is proposed to research the identity of those buried,
document graves and restore the site.

Work has commenced on rewriting and updating the "Malanda,
In the Shadow of Bartle Frere".
The second biennial conference of the Chinese Heritage in Northern Australia (CHINA inc) was held on the weekend of the 16 – 17 February 2008, in the community meeting rooms at the Cairns Library in Abbott Street. See report.
