NEW PUBLICATION!
Expedition in the Search Of Gold and Other Minerals in the Palmer Districts
by Mulligan and Party
It is with great pleasure that the Eacham Historical Society commemorates the century of the death of one of north Queensland's greatest explorers, with the publication of Mulligan's fifth expedition journal and map.
This Journal was first published in the Queensland Parliamentary papers of 1876 with no map included. Mulligan was upset by this. It is only now that the two documents are finally published together.
Besides a few minor changes being made to the original text, this finely bound hard back Journal, includes for the first time the expedition map and a few additional comments in italics from James Venture Mulligan's autobiography published in the Queenslander in 1903.
This journal discribes a 5 month expedition through the north with references to Aboriginal people, the geography and minerals found. Mulligan and Party were the first europeans to pass through Tolga Atherton he discribes the fine rainforest and at Herberton he discovers Tin.
This is a collectors item is a excellent reference source for lovers of north Queensland history.
